Australia, we need a new flag. Our flag should be beautiful, just, and historically accurate. It must represent all Australia’s people, including those who would have preferred to keep the old flag.

My design references Australia’s unique geographic position on the globe, and evokes our continent, the rich red soils, the endless blue skies. It honours the Indigenous custodians whose resilience, wisdom and traditions have illuminated the land for so long. It pays respect to the many many hands who have built the nation we know today, their cultures and traditions gathered from afar like the Southern Cross cluster of stars. It honours our dead, retaining the red, white and blue under which so many have fought and died. And it welcomes the newest Australians, who have come here to build a better life.
